We would like to congratulate our electrical engineering apprentice Bayley Brown who was recently nominated to receive an Apprentice of the Year Award at New College Lanarkshire’s Apprenticeship Awards which take place on Tuesday the 5th of March at their Coatbridge campus.

Bayley began his apprenticeship in August 2020 at New College Lanarkshire (Motherwell) doing HC Electrical Engineering followed by HNC Electrical Engineering and he is due to complete this around May or June.

After Bayley left high school he went straight into further education as he attended the City of Glasgow College where he studied HNC/D Mechanical Engineering which he completed in June 2020. Before his studies came to an end Bayley started working for LREL in January 2020 working Monday and Friday.

When Levenseat rolled out the apprentice programme four years ago, Bayley was actually one of the first to come aboard, he has become an important part of our engineering team for our Materials Recycling and Fuel Preparation facility. In his role at LREL he does a number of different tasks which include health and safety, fault finding, testing equipment, and checking the safety of various systems.

Bayley mentioned that the apprenticeship programme has been really rewarding as not only has he gained some vital on-the-job experience but he has grown in confidence as he has had to step up in his role furthermore learning to do things following the correct procedures which have also improved his communications skills. He also felt that he has forged some great working relationships with his colleagues over the years.

He was delighted to be nominated for an Apprentice of the Year Award from New College Lanarkshire, he felt that achieving positive grades at college, alongside his well-written log books and great feedback from his accessor were some of the key components in that led to him being considered for an award.

When asked about his future plans, Bayley mentioned that he is looking forward to finishing off his apprenticeship in a few months time and that he was thinking of heading to University to do his Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering.

Best of luck with the awards ceremony Bayley we’re extremely proud of your achievement.

“Since starting with the business Bayley has excelled in his role as Electrical Apprentice, growing in confidence and his knowledge has grown immensely. He always shows enthusiasm for learning new engineering techniques and is willing to take on tasks that bring new challenges. Both Bayley’s attitude to work and knowledge have made him an exceptional employee.

We will continue to support Bayley with any future training and development that will enhance his knowledge and career prospects, well done Bayley the management team is proud of what you have achieved. Keep up the great work.”
